Reflections Week Three: The World is Flat

This week I was lucky enough to get acquainted with Thomas L. Friedmans book: The World is Flat. I’ve heard about it before, and been wanting to read it for quite some time, so it was great to be able do it for school. That way you have to do it! I watched the video and skimmed through the book that I found on my room mates bookshelf. Very interesting! Friedman got some very interesting views about the modern world and how is has become ‘flat’. Flat in the sense that the world is getting smaller and smaller due to the vast amount of technology that is available today. He talks about the 10 flatteners; the 10 most important things which has helped flatten the world. Among these is of course the internet, the fall of the Berlin war, the launch of Netscape and other software applications and uploading and offshoring.
I personally believe that these flatteners are of a great importance for the way we live our life today here in Hawaii. I go to school with people from all over the world, and talk to my family and friends back home in Denmark via Skype. I guess… Without most of these flatteners I probably would not have been in Hawaii pursuing my MBA. These flatteners have opened doors for my generation, which were never available to the generations before us. I mostly believe that development of technology is a good thing.

I also learned about Business Development Reengineering from the group project that is due tomorrow. We had a brainstorming about how to change and improve the way registration of classes and tuition payment takes place on HPU. I think we came up with lots of great ideas – you’ll see tomorrow!
